Homemade Barbeque Sauce | For All Your BBQ Needs
In this recipe we’re going to show you how to make barbeque sauce, Chef Anthony style. We’ll be using the Jenn Air 36" Stainless Steel Induction cooktop to cook our sauce. If you aren’t on induction, you can still follow this recipe.
Preheat the induction at a 7 or 70%, or on medium-high. Induction will heat all of our ingredients in 1 minute or less. This is a great way to cook safely, and efficiently. You can put your hand right next to your pot and not get burnt. You could even eventually spill a little bit of sauce on the surface and not have to worry about it burning.
To start our sauce off, take a half of a red onion and dice it. Place 1 teaspoon of oil in the pan and then add the onions to start cooking. Raise the heat up to 9 or 90%, or high if you’re not using induction. You want to cook these until they are translucent. This is the time before they caramelize, but where they are cooked enough that they are almost clear.
Lower the temperature back down to 50% or medium heat. To the bottom of the pot, add 4 ounces of soy sauce. Add ¼ cup of a double expresso shot. This will add body, earthiness, and a great color to the sauce. Next we’ll move on to adding 2 cups of ketchup, and then 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard. T
his recipe isn’t spicy, but if you wanted to add some hot sauce you could add that in as well. For the balance of sweetness, add in 1 cup of loosely packed brown sugar. You want it loosely packed, so it dissolves easier. Moving onto the seasonings add 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper.
At this point your sauce will start to get thick. Add about 1 ½ cups of water. You can add more or less water depending on how thick you want your barbeque sauce to turn out. Once mixing in all the ingredients, let this simmer for 3 – 5 minutes or until all of the ingredients are completely incorporated together. To finish this off for additional sweetness, add 2 tablespoons of honey.
From here, bring the burner up to high, and boil this for another 3 – 5 minutes. After you reach the consistency you want, cool this, and add it to any barbeque dish. This is a sweet yet salty barbeque sauce for all of your barbecue needs.
